It is my understanding, that orbiting celestial bodies, exerience the gravitational pull of the object they are orbiting, which is countered by the centrifugal force that is the object trying to travel passed the object it is orbiting. These forces are never equal, for example the earth is slowly moving away from the sun, because the gravitational pull of the sun is weakening due to the fact that it is slowly losing it’s mass. This is the reason why the earth is slowly getting colder. Then you have the ice dwarfs at the outer limits of our solar system such as Pluto that have no objects outside of them for millions of light years but they are still trapped in orbit around the sun.
